THE FUTURE OF ASIAN AUSTRALIAN CASTING:
In conversation with Lou Mitchell
Do Asian Australians see themselves represented on screen? In this insightful event, join acclaimed casting director Lou Mitchell of Maura Fay Casting, known for her work on White Fever, Gold Diggers, Retrograde, Hungry Ghosts, Ronny Chieng: International Student and The Whistleblower, in conversation with Thao Tran. Together, they will explore the current and future landscape of diversity, equality, and inclusion in Australian TV and film casting, with a particular focus on Asian Australian actors.
Drawing from her extensive experience, Lou will discuss the intricate process of assembling an Asian Australian ensemble cast for productions such as Ra Chapman’s comedy series White Fever, and how language and dialect challenges are approached. She will also examine why so few Asian Australians are recognized as simply 'Australian' in principal roles.
If you are a producer, director, writer, agent, actor or simply someone interested in shaping a more inclusive and diverse industry, we invite you to attend this meaningful session. Attendees will also have the opportunity to participate in a lively Q&A session with Lou Mitchell and industry guests.
