What’s On
The Chinatown Script Pitch Competition
Screen Presence, Melbourne Chinatown Business Association, Konpira Maru Wine Company and the Asian Cinema Collective present The Chinatown Script Pitch Competition!
Always wanted to make a short film? Got an idea for a project set in Chinatown?
We're excited to launch The Chinatown Script Pitch Competition - a new opportunity to give emerging scriptwriters, filmmakers, and comedians the chance to pitch their original short film scripts set in Melbourne's vibrant Chinatown! The winning pitch will receive a $500 cash prize, with the chance for future project collaboration.
The competition will be judged by an industry panel that includes:
Lawrence Leung – screenwriter, actor, and award-winning comedian (Lawrence Leung's Choose Your Own Adventure, Maximum Choppage)
Urvi Majumdar – the incredibly talented comedian, writer, actor, and producer (Urvi Went to an All Girls' School, The Emu War, Fisk)
Marisa NaNakhorn Brown – AWGIE-nominated screenwriter, developer, and script editor (Clickbait, Fires, Spooky Files)
Through this competition, we hope to celebrate Chinatown's rich history, culture, and modern-day relevance, told through fresh and innovative storytelling across genres like drama, comedy, action, or hybrids. We're especially eager to see submissions from Asian Australian voices to bring new and exciting perspectives to the table.
To enter, please complete the submission form and send your project details to screen@chinesemuseum.com.au by midnight, Thursday May 8, 2025, including:
