Chris Pang recognised and celebrated as exceptional Chinese Australian Achiever

On 30th August 2024, the Chinese Australian Achievers Awards were announced. The Chinese Museum initiative that aims to recognise and celebrate exceptional achievement of Chinese Australians, in the context of more than 200 years of Chinese Australian stories. One of eight recipients was actor Chris Pang in recognition of his individual achievement and contributions to Australian society.

Chris Pang will soon be seen in the series Interior Chinatown, scheduled to premiere on Hulu on November 19, 2024. Chris plays local hero Jonathan Wong, around which the entire season’s pilot centers. Pang was seen as the love interest of Ra Chapman’s offbeat Asian Australian comedy White Fever, a series regular on Jason Katims series As We See It for Amazon Prime.

Most recently released at TIFF, Chris plays Pat in the  independent feature Seagrass from director Meredith Hama-Brown and the love interest in Adele Lim’s directorial debut comedy Joy Ride for Lionsgate. 

Prior to that Chris was seen in Jim Henson Company’s The Portable Door alongside Christoph Waltz, Netflix/Universal’s sequel Blade of the 47 Ronin in which he plays a duty-bound samurai, and in the indie hit Palm Springs with Andy Samberg which premiered at Sundance and recently broke all Hulu streaming records. 

Chris is known for Sony’s reboot of the Iconic Charlie’s Angels franchise opposite Kristen Stewart and as one of the leads in Warner Bros breakout hit Crazy Rich Asians directed by Jon M. Chu, which received the Critics’ Choice Award for Best Film (Comedy). 

Prior to that, Pang appeared in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: The Green Legend, the sequel to Ang Lee’s iconic martial arts feature and seen recurring on the second season of Netflix epic Marco Polo as tribe leader Arban. 

His breakout role was the lead role of ‘Lee’, in Paramount’s Tomorrow When the War Began, the highest grossing Australian film of 2010 which went on to collect many IF and AACTA (formerly AFI) awards. The success of the film was followed by a number of Australian television appearances on shows such Rush, the critically acclaimed Tangle and City Homicide. As well as in films such as Lakeshore’s I, Frankenstein opposite Aaron Eckhart, The Mule with Hugo Weaving and Citizen Jia Li, for which he won an Asians on Film (LA) Best Actor award.
